BlasterPhone became a member of the iNum community in December, 2008 and is the first VoIP Operator in Brazil to start distributing iNums to its users. iNums are also available to BlasterPhone users worldwide.
iNum stands for International Number. It is a new kind of global phone number for a new kind of world - a world with a new geography that's about local presence and global relationships, not about distance or national borders.
iNum is making use of the +883 global country code newly created by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union).
History
iNum is an initiative launched by Voxbone, supplier of local telephone numbers to communications services providers and businesses worldwide. Voxbone is a privately held company with offices in Brussels, Singapore and Los Angeles. The www.inum.net website aims to inform about the iNum initiative and its members and will centralize the communication between iNum members.
iNum started its life in August 2006, when Voxbone applied for global numbering resources to the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). In November 2008 the iNum initiative officially launched, and its partners now collectively drive its future roadmap.
Benefits
Traditional phone numbers are tied to a particular country, or even a particular city, so when you move to another country you need to get a new number from a new supplier.
iNum numbers however do not have this limitation and you can therefore keep your iNum wherever you go in the world. You will always be reachable on the same number for the rest of your life.
iNum initially supports voice calls only, but it will soon support more services.
iNums are reachable from a growing list of networks. Eventually iNums will be reachable from any network worldwide just as any other “real” phone number.
Some services already routing calls to iNum are displayed on www.inum.net
Since iNum is not yet reachable from every phone network in the world, Voxbone have established local access numbers in 45 countries that can be used to reach iNum from any phone. This effectively makes iNum reachable from 45 countries for the cost of a local call, from any phone. Simply dial the local access number closest to you, and dial the chosen iNum afterwards. See access numbers on www.inum.net
